Hi Guys,
I'd like to make a joke IR remote blocker that causes IR interference,
and prevents remote controlled devices from receiving commands from their remotes.

What's the simplest way I could do this?

Would it be enough to pulse an IR LED at pseudo random intervals?
Cheers, Art.

I think you have to take the carrier wave into consideration if you want to jam a receiver.
it depends on your equipments

It could be done though

So I could try using a PWM output of a microcontroller?
and perhaps another LED with another output source.

Tht the basic Idea.
U have to find the carrier frequency of the device which you wish to jam first, and using a PIC I think you can generate the needed carrier and modulate it with just garbage or junk so tht the receiver cannot identify the original signal.
Try searching for RC5 and RC6 IR codes

Doesn't need to be that complicated.

A 555 oscillates at around 38KHz driving an IR LED will disable 99% of all IR remotes.

One simple thing you could try is to build a Joule Thief using an IR LED. These guys are very bright and will likely overwhelm the receiver.
