Hi Folks, I have a IPOD 160G player which came with the car already fitted. My problem is the IPOD has packed up and I really cant afford a new one.

Is it possible to modify the cable which is fitted into the car so that I can play my music with a cheap MP3 player that has a mini USB fitting?

Can this be done and does anybody have a schematic at all??

Apple has a habit of doing things in nonstandard ways to defeat this kind of effort. I'm not saying it is impossible, just difficult without documentation which either does not exist in the public domain or is not widely available.

Suck it up and save your nickels if you want expensive toys.

 

Try looking for the iPod dock pinout. Analog line out audio will be in there, I think, and I'll bet that's all that the car needs to provide sound. I'm sure someone had travelled this path before for you.
