Im not sure but I think this is supposed to be a picture of Serial-in parallel out.

I say this because earlier on it is mentioned that:
" * Serial-in/serial-out
* Serial-in/parallel-out
* Parallel-in/serial-out
* Universal parallel-in/parallel-out
* Ring counter
"

and you seem to have a picture for each except for Serial -in/parallel-out.

though perhaps I am mistaken.

also spelling mistake in the paragraph below the images:

"This sat the data first present at "data in". The shift register should now contain four data bits."

I am unable to determine what "sat" is though maybe im guessing its "stage"

Thanks for the correction. Yes this diagram should be serial-in, parallel-out. It appears as though this is a mistake that has propagated across from copying the parallel-in, serial out diagram.

Yes it should be stage. I would suggest the sentence is incomplete, perhaps it should be to the effect of:

This stage contains the data first present at "data in". The shift register should now contain four data bits

Thanks Keith and Dave for the corrections which ahve been entered in the copy at ibiblio.org . I have also made minor changes to a couple of subsection titles for a more consistent style. Besides the image 04373.pgn with an incorrect caption, I have changed the feedback point in 04375.png to reflect the text descritpion.
