ICL7107 AC/DC Meter Help

I know I can buy a cheap multimeter, but I am building an AC/DC voltmeter into a project. I have built the DC meter version of the ICL7107 and it works great. I see in the Intersil datasheet, figure 21, that you can make an AC meter. What I want to do is combine the circuits and use one 7107 and LED display. My current solution is a messy configuration of many switches to switch between the DC version and AC version of the meter to the same 7101. Does anybody have a simplier solution? CD4066?
