Hi, I'm looking for an alternative to a 74HC164 with a maximum DC current through VCC and/or GND of at least 160mA (around 200mA preferred). Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.

You're not going to find a shift register that can source and sink 25 mA per pin.

You'll need some sort of driver between the shift register and whatever you are driving.

How about something in the TPIC6B595 family? They only sink (they're open drain) but handle op to 350mA per pin. Alternatively, follow the '164 with a ULN2803 (sink) or UDN2987 (source) if you have the space.

Thanks! I first considered a driver stage but due to size limitations I think that the TPIC6B595 will do the job.
