i ended up going for a separate hotair station and a separate iron

looking at the reviews look to be a very good iron but temp only goes up to 350 c is this still good for lead free soldering ?

That should bee fine, I run my iron at ~310 for normal solder and ~330 for lead free or thick metals.

I hesitated before saying this, but Google is your friend.
I also had never heard the expression before. I suspect the origins are British.

I was thinking he had some massive old hot air/soldering station combo which he got rid of.
