Many modern devices such as this and IPads etc, are opened by spatula shaped instruments that go in the seams of the unit and spring open some plastic latches, these tools can be found on line, ebay etc.

It might also help if you google for teardown of the device in question. Knowing where the latches are and how they're configured will make it less likely that something will break.

I've found that you can never have to many "guitar picks".
