How to measure UV light

Either use a specific Uv photodiode/phototransistor (even if they exist they won't be cheap imo )
Or use a broad-range photodiode (easier to find) that goes down to uv range and use a physical uv colour filter as the sensor .
The photodiode output will to go a microcontroller ADC.
Also .. UV is anything from about 200nm to 405 nm so you need to specify what you need to measure.

If that Hamamatsu Photonics UV sensor turns out to be too expensive, you can try using a photo transistor or photo diode designed to handle longer wavelengths and use a florescent material to down-convert the frequency into that detector's range.

Probably just a can of day-glo paint would work. And I am sure it would work best with the right combination of LED wavelength, florescent dye, and detector.
