How to maximize the overall lifespan of an SLA battery

My friend and I built 2 portable batteries for powering stuff such as computers, mobile devices, etc. We haven't accumulated enough 18650s yet to use lithium batteries, so we used SLA batteries instead. From what I read on battery university, it sounds like it's best to keep the SLA batteries at 100% charge to maximize their life span, but I just wanted to make sure that this is correct and that I didn't misread or misinterpret something.

Yes, SLA's (or any lead-acid battery) should be maintained at full charge, otherwise they may sulfate and lose capacity.
This can best be done with an intelligent charger that charges at a higher rate, and then drops to the proper trickle charge rate, to maintain the battery fully charged.

Thanks for confirming that. My battery has an intelligent charger, but my friend's doesn't so I will tell him that it would be good to get one. Thanks for the help!
