How to Determine BW Needed

If one needed to determine the frequency bandwidth needed for surge current detection, how would one go about doing so?

What factors are important and what equations govern this?

Any reading you may know would help me greatly. Thanks in advance.

Example, if the trip current is about 25 mA and need to break connection within 25 ms then what Freq. BW would be required?

Thank you. That is a good read.

But if I wasn't referring to in rush current but to have an surge detector when a machine has been powered on already what would the bandwidth have to be to detect a fast current surges? These surges would be impulses correct and they have pretty high frequency components.

Just trying to see how one would determine the bandwidth needed to detect a particular current surge. Especially if one was trying to do it Optically.
