Welcome to AAC!

A thread belongs to the OP (original poster). Trying to take over someone elses thread is called hijacking, which is not allowed at All About Circuits. I have therefore given you a thread of your very own.

This was split from 9-0 seven segment counter

Don't forget the programmer.

Any kind of µC is usually cheaper, but it is a quantity issue, you need to do lots of projects for them to be justified.

They also do not teach how to work digital (or analog in many cases). I have seen a lot of people who can use these suckers very well not have a clue on the basic of LEDs. If you have not paid your dues in basic electronics then learning µC short circuits a lot of learning. Knowing µC does not make you good with electronics, those who know both are better and more experienced than either alone, but true electronics is a much deeper subject.

My favorite count up/down chip is the 4029, but the old 74192 or 74193 work well. Of the latter the 74192 is BCD, the 74192 is binary.
