Take time to reflect on when a balanced modulator is used in radio communication. Is it used to produce FM?

Was the answer "by feeding the audio directly to the oscillator" one of the choices you were given?

 

This won't affect your answer,but there are several older,pretty much obsolete, methods of obtaining FM which do utilise a balanced modulator as part of a quite complex system,so if you look up some old references,you may be led astray.
