HITACHI VC-7504 oscilloscope.
I bought it few months ago and I was very pleased with it.
That until yesterday evening after three weeks in which it was not used, it was not put in the plug and it does not want to work anymore.
At startup, it does some kind of test, some sort of self-calibration, gives PASS to all the functions that check it, displays the message that it has finished calibration and then hangs there. Mut!
If I stop it and restart it, it does nothing, it does not display anything, it does not respond to any commands.
Self calibration, before when it worked, usually did it after a long time in which it was not used. It started working but displayed a message with a "emty battery" for a while.
I think it was some BIOS battery.
I opened the tool, I identified the battery,received_1639541666119720.jpeg received_1639541726119714.jpeg 1.2V at the first measurement and after a while in the socket ... it reached 2.27V.
Is it possible because of that battery to remain hanging after doing his test .... :( Has he lost some necessary data when booting and does not know what to do?
The oscilloscope is a combination of digital analog and crt. I liked it very much and I would love to save it.

I left in the socket this morning and at the lunch break I gave her a power on. Calibration again ... but this time did not pass the vertically position test and showed me to press enter to move on. I hit enter ... and nothing. He was stuck again in the autocalibration menu. Power off / power on and calibration again. This time I had an "enter" button. He calibrated, all with PASS and after displaying the calibrated message I quickly pressed "enter". Big smile :). It started successfully.
Continue to display the empty battery message.
I have to see how and with what I replace it. It's a battery attached directly to the motherboard in a vertical position. Access to it is hard and I have not yet found any inscription on battery.

If it is soldered into the board then it may be rechargeable in which case leave it switched on for a while - perhaps 24 hours as it will only be a trickle charge - and then try again.

I replaced the old battery . CR2030 Li 3V.

I used a socket for the new CR2030 and pulled two wires on the board. The entire assembly was pulled into heat shrink tube and then fixed received_1640102209396999.jpeg received_1640102599396960.jpeg received_1640102632730290.jpeg to the chassis.
After power on and autocalibration returned to life. :)
Ty for your help!!!

I hope to find a service manual for it. next time I think it will not be that simple anymore
When it gets bad enough, just buy a different on on craigslist/eBay. You’ll be able to get a more current model for $100 or less as companies/schools continue to upgrade or close their labs.
