The discovery of electricity is still going on. It is the realization that all matter is apparently made out of two electrically combined particles or charges.

We can exert work (energy) in one location to separate those charges......transport that potential to a different location............giving us almost the same amount of work, at the new location.

With electricity, we can transfer work over distance, instead of mass over distance. We can also store and save work. We can also transfer between linear and angular work.

We can also use this charge potential to transfer data and information......where the "work" is not relevant, only the information is.

The uses of electricity will continue to grow.

Look up Luigi Galvani.
Frog's leg.
nerve impulses is an electrical signal that travels along an axon. Communication is 0 and 1 as computers. Conduction is due to ions not Bloch functions like in the metallic conductor.
Galvani show that a frog leg can move if he applies an electrical pulse.
At that time it sounded like for a circus. Nothing useful does not seemed to come from this.

To me, one amazing thing about electricity, is that it is such an easy way to instantly transmit large amounts of energy from one location to another with high efficiency that can then be used to perform so many different functions.
So you have two wires (or maybe three) into your house that are a source of energy to do just about anything -- generate heat, generate rotary or linear motion, operate any type of electronic equipment, etc.
And, of course, there's all the remarkable things that electronic devices do, all running on electricity.
Hard to believe that just a couple centuries ago, electricity was just an interesting phenomenon, steam was the only way to generate mechanical powered motion, and all our information was carried by horseback and train.

Tesla was one step better than that. He proposed a way to transmit power without the need for transmission cables.
The problem was you couldn't monitor consumer usage and hence charge for it. The corporations couldn't agree to that.

He proposed a way that was and is scientifically impossible because he didn't believe in electromagnetic waves or modern physics. The problem wasn't corporations, it was fundamental science.
