hello

I have one 230v single phase motor. full load current of this motor is max.3A. i am trying to switch the power supply of this motor through a transister(trying to replace relay). the controllling system is my PIC16f877a.can anyone suggest me a transister and a possible circuit for this. I think we can feed base current from PIC port.but iam not sure about the collector and emitter connections.

 

A transistor will not work. It is a DC device.

Use an SSR which is opto-isolated. Otherwise, your PIC circuit will be connected to the AC line, creating a huge hazard for you or anybody else that works on it in the future.
