Greetings,

I'm new to this site and was hoping I could get some much needed assistance in my projects. Currently I am endeavoring to construct a plasma cutter from scratch. I have gathered many components and am beginning my preparations. My first major obstacle is building a pilot arc circuit that will produce ~50K volts for only a few seconds. I am interested in using an automotive ignition coil for the "transformer" but am not skilled enough to glean the rest of the circuit, like how to time it and create the collapsing field through the coil to produce the voltage etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are inexperienced with electricity and high voltages call a professional. Electricity is not kidding if you don't know how to use it.
