help with simple led circut

Hi im kinda new at electronics but have some basic knowledge an skill. im desperatlly in need of making a basic small circut to make 32 smd led's flash randomlly at a resnable speed without using a program chip. if someone could please help me in laymens terms that'd be great. thanks

Google this phrase -> pseudo random shift register. I remember doing it on a funny lab project just before a school break. But that was long time ago. So I can not help you more

You can make something which looks random but it is not.

Take four 8-bit binary counters and wire them as to create a 32-bit counter. Then clock the first counter at 5 Hz and you will see the leds flashing according to the counting sequence. You will know that but the others won't and it will look random.
