The circuit link above shows a 8051 with a RS232C transcevier implemented with the Maxim MAX232 IC. What IC can be used to replace MAX232 IC yet at the same time not compromising the original functionality of the provious circuit?

 

I don't have any experience with this chip... but what is the problem? Can you not find it? Are you looking for a pin-for-pin replacement of a chip that is already in circuit?

Seems like you just need to pick a new chip and wire it up according to the datasheet. That is all that is happening in this circuit.

Bottom line, the datasheet will have all the answers you need.
