..well all iv'e been able to do is the truth table for each Y, then i have got a logic expression from them but they are really long.. and now im lost..

 

Check out the material in the AAC Tutorial on Karnaugh Map. In particular you might be able to benefit from the section on 3 variable Karnaugh Map.
