Might work...

Might work for a while then fail...

Might not work.

You need to check that your DVR has a format option (I would guess that it does)

Even if you get it to work, there may be subtle forces at work that will make the new drive unreliable. There are special commands that put SOME drives into quiet mode, there are heating issues, there may be other issues.

Then of course there may be simpler problems: Your PC drive may be SATA while your PVR wants an IDE drive (of a particular make and model).

Experiment if you want, but you may be disappointed with poor reliability or short life span.

At least that is that I found from experience. Maybe you will have better luck.

The DVR manufacturer may have carefully selected a particular drive for the job, and may have set it up in a special way.

I added a hard drive to an old DirecTV TIVO that I had but it was a complex process and required special formating of the hard drive before installation.

My present DirecTV DVR has a socket for an external SATA drive, where you just connect it and it works (but then the internal drive is not available).

What type of DVR do you have?
