I wish I would have waited. I paid $90 shipped for a HP P2110W which gives 600 DPI through software but can also go to 1200 DPI.

Looks like this one does true 600 DPI. I am guessing it also has a rear page exit which the P2110W lacks.

Downside is that this printer does not appear to be wireless a nice feature of the P2110W.

I just toner transfer the silkscreen. It is black but it works. It would be nice to be able to get white toner.

Not 100, I suppose. Would you settle for 10 each of 10 different designs? That would cost $99 for 5cmx5cm layout. 10 each of 5 different designs at 10cmx10cm would be about $125...

This does have an application for fast prototyping. But can you do two layer boards? Many designs nowadays are becoming more and more difficult to do on a single layer. Wire jumpers aren't acceptable for high speed or mass production...

I don't even need 10. I need one. I'm not doing high speed mass production. Just for my own use.

How does this stuff work? Do you print right on it with the LJ? If so a mirror of regular image of the silkscreen layer?

And what was that testors green paint you use? Where do you get it?

How do you paint the board if doing SMD? Through hole?

 

I actually prefer placed boards, especially when I'm not the one paying for them.

For home hobby stuff, I've made 2 sided boards, vias were a bit of a pain, but alignment wasn't so bad, as long as you put the board outline on both transfers, outside the edge of the board, so the toner just touches the board all the way around.

Then spray with Testors transparent candy green, let dry a day, add white RTF one side, place and solder, the green looks like solder mask, but isn't.

It burns away with the soldering iron, a bit of a pain, but if you want it to look neat, there ya go.

I've tinned pads before spraying lately so it goes easier, but then it looks "pro" for a cheezy gift or for kids at show and tell.
