Too many hours googling but couldn't find the actual difference between a Foucault and a grandfather's clock pendulum.

The length and / or (swinging or not on a plane)?

Focault's pendulum was built to study the motion of the Earth, by measuring the precession as already noted.

There are many other forms of pendula, including inverted, chaotic, Bernoulli's etc.

Prefessor Rott's pendumonium is a good start.

The effect of side forces, eg magnetic ones on a suspended magnetic ball, are also interesting and can demonstrate Lorenz chaos.
