This morning there were two posts by a junior member, Geotech. The threads were:

http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/showthread.php?t=39991&highlight=metal+detector

http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/showthread.php?t=40559&highlight=metal+detector

The posts gave a link to Geotech's web page that is devoted to metal detectors. My first response was, "Is this spam?" As I was about to hit the report button, I decided to check the link. I found nothing offensive there. In fact, it seemed a genuine effort by someone who was interested in metal detectors. I found the information there interesting and helpful. If he was selling something, it clearly was not obvious, and I didn't see it.

Now, it seems those two posts are deleted. Why were they deleted? How were those posts any different from an individual pointing to his own blog on a subject here?

Thank you for that explanation. I was not aware of a minimum word count for a post.

On the other hand, Geotech 's history with AAC dates to February, 2010:
http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/showthread.php?t=33980&highlight=geotech

That history is unusual for a spammer. The link he gave is not commercial in nature, particularly when compared to some signatures on AAC, so I did not think it was spam.

Wikipedia said:
Main article: Forum spam

Forum spam is the creating of messages that are advertisements, abusive, or otherwise unwanted on Internet forums.
Bottom line: I am glad I copied the information he provided before it got erased.

Well said John.

His post was within a thread regarding metal detectors and he posted a link to a site about metal detectors. I may not have been a direct answer to the question asked but neither are heaps of other posts.

Like you I don't beleive he "dropped in briefly and left behind links". He did contribute to other threads.
