I am working as shift engineer at 320MW thermal power unit.yesterday the unit load was 175MW.Suddenly variation observed in generator parameters as under: MVAR -200~-300,P.F 0.5 leading, generator voltage 14~17 kv(generator voltage is 20kv),exciatation current is almost zero and load variation about 20MW but unit not tripped on loss of exciatation. After some time we manually tripped the unit. Are we take correct action? What was the reason behind this fault and what is the effects of this fault on generator(note that AVR is out of srvice and exciatation is provided through another source.

I hate to tell you this but the kind of stuff you're working with is way out of our league.

Sounds like it could be a potential safety issue as well, I'd contact the manufacturer(s)
