I want to order this: http://www.saelig.com/UB/UB072.htm but as you can see, Saelig says it's discontinued. I know I can still get it, but does 'discontinued' mean it's been superseeded by something newer, better? Anyone familiar with this product?

Thanks!

Your link has too many http:// in it
It means that after the units in stock are gone no more will be ordered or available.

To put my question another way, IS this product superceeded by a newer/better product, and is that why it was discontinued? Is anyone familiar with this product?

I think I answered my own question. The FTD4232H is still available and being produced. I don't know what is different between it and FTD4232HQ, but I guess the Q designator was some earlier version. Anyway, I'm putting mine on order.

It could be that they are not selling much of that board, and hence it is better to remove it. As long as you can get driver that fits your OS. I would not worry to much if this is a hobbyist project

It's only partly a hobby project. I've used computer parallel ports in the past for bringing up my projects, but they are getting scarce, and my homebrew software doesn't work with any of the USB/parallel conversion cables. This board offers a programming API to the driver software so I can continue to use my programs with a little modification. Anyway, I ordered the newer version and eagerly await it's arrival.
