floating voltage and solid state relay

I'm having an issue with a Solid State Relay triggering with the slightest floating voltage when using a transistor or mosfet - and if I do without and trigger the SSR directly from an arduino it will not fully engaging.

Is there a way of clipping voltages or current that would to setting the transistor off?

I'm fairly green at this. Maybe a FET or something else that requires a minimum voltage of 4v would be better? It there other switching devices that can be put in front of the SSR?

thanks
