Depends on your area of interest in electronics.

If you look at the sub forums on this site you will find lots of useful information by following threads about components and general electronics. There are often discussions about the sort of timers that go into CH timers and room thermostats.

Boilers are a much more hostile environment and specialised area and the typical boiler service manual refers to 'replace board' rather than repair board. So information here is definitely harder to find. You may have to replace relays in service though and therefore find this thread of interest.

Definitely use a single tube. I would use one with vanes on the inside to maximize surface area between the water and the metal.
