I have a 1/2 hp ac motor i took out of a window ac unit that i am wanting to put on a squirrel cage fan. It is 220 v 4speed. The capacitor that came out of the unit is a dual capacitor labled fan/c/herm. I know that the herm is for the condenser side of it, so i need not worry about it. I know that the brown wire from the motor goes to fan on the capacitor. The question i have is after doing a little research everyone says that the white wire off the motor should go to the c on the capacitor, but it has to be hooked up to one leg of the 220 so im not understanding how to go about doing it. Help Please!

Chances are that cap was also used for the compressor thus a dual section unit.

F is probably Fan, C is probably common. If you still have the guts or wiring diagram that was on the inside of the case that's probably going to be the only way to trace out how to hook the rest of the motor up.
