I'm considering building a project that would required distributed ethernet I/O Modules in remote locations all communicating to a central processor. The remote I/O blocks will need configurable Inputs and Outputs 30 to 40 in total, some analog inputs, and about 10 PWM outputs. Can someone point me to some hardware that I could use to create these remote I/O modules? I'm more of a software guy. Thanks in advance!!

 

There is at least one industrial Ethernet standard, called Ethernet/IP. Google ODVA for the trade organization and checkout offerings from Allen-Bradley, Acromag and others
