EtherCAT slave implementaion in DE2-115

Hello,

I have a query about EtherCAT.

Can we implement EtherCAT protocol in DE2-115 Cyclone IV FPGA board as slave.

Do we need a EtherCAT controller or we can implement without using any controllers like Backhoff EtherCAT.
