hi guys, what's the letter designation for ESD diode in a circuit, like for IC its U, C for caps, R for res.. for ESD what's the standard letter designation. any input is appreciated... thanks..

Diodes use the "D" reference designator. Sometimes you'll see "ZD" used for Zener diodes.

I've heard it mentioned "CR" is no longer used for diodes (conventional, power and signal), what did that stand for and when did it go out of use?

 

CR = Crystal Rectifier. Started fading away sometime in the early to mid 90's IIRC though I see it used ocassionally.

I think I prefer "D".
