Thanks, it was just in backwards, now it functions fine. (I read somewhere that you should routinely check transistors for the correct leg orientation as some manufacturers make them backwards.) I'll build it with the BS170s when they arrive and post a photo of the completed PCB. The first one functions great! Thank you for your help everyone.

 

Good news, the circuit is made and functions well. Here is my last revision of the file before I mill a 3rd example. Thanks to everyone for your help!

Don't forget that the drain and source legs are reversed on the BS170 as compared to the 2N7000.
