Hi there,

i am quite green in the electronics department, but i need to build an egg timer using flipflops that sounds off an alarm at a set counterE.g 2minute counter than sound an alarm. Also i would need to vary the time eg. 1min,2min,3min.

is there any help i can get?

thanks a lot

Sounds like you just started an electronics course.

Since this is really a homework assignment, it should've been posted in the "Homework Help" section, and that way you wouldn't have to declare it as such.

While we can help you with it, we can't design it for you.

If your instructor did not tell you to use a certain logic classification, like TTL or CMOS, I suggest you have a look at the 4000 series CMOS IC's. They are not as finicky about their voltage supply as TTL is.

Hint: you can build a square wave generator using a 4000-series CMOS Schmitt-trigger device that has an inverting output.

i do not need the design , but forexample, i am going to try to build a downcounter using jk flipflops, now if the timer is to be 3 minutes, will it be fine to be a 3 bit counter? or 2 bit, one for minutes and one for seconds?
