Dual supply voltage from a 9V battery

I want to drive an op amp with dual supply using only a (9V) battery.

I'm thinking it can be made by having 9V at the +supply, 0V at the -supply and then connecting the ground reference to 4.5V? But would that really work? Would that really be the same as having an actual dual supply?

Its possible use a 'spare' OPA to create a virtual ground for +/-4/5V from a 9V supply.

Are you amplifying DC or AC signals.?
