I want to build a three digit up/down counter. I was going to use LEDs but now that I see the 3.5 digit LCD display, I'd rather use that.

Can I somehow interface the LCD display to three 4510 ICs?

 

Do you need the capability to count both up and down? If not, then why not look at the 4553 3-digit BCD up-counter instead?

You haven't given us much to go on with the 3.5 digit LCD display. Do you have a link to a datasheet?

 

To drive a bare bones LCD you need a LCD driver chip such as the MAX1492.

 

Thanks for your help guys, yes, I do need both up and down count.
The LCD displays I've seen have a circuit attached for measuring voltage.

I guess I need to find a "bare bones" LCD display.

The reference to the LCD driver chip is what I needed. I think I can take it from there.
