Drive issues with chinese motors

New to the chat room and looking for troubleshooting help. I work with a company which produces brewery equipment in China . The Factory there also provides pumps and transmission drive motors that operate rakes and agitators, We have our control panels built in Canada using materials from a vendor out of Atlanta. Recently we found that they had changed out one of the transmission motors with another of larger size. Since the VFD in the panel was spec'd for the smaller motor we had to swap that out with a larger VFD. Once we hooked the motor up to the new VFD and wired it for its proper voltage the motor started a Clanking sound and faulted out on overload. When rewired at a higher voltage setting it operated fine with no sound coming from the unit. When manually pushed without any voltage on the motor this sound goes away. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this motor to make a sound like this from a VFD?
