I want to build a dot matrix that will display I AM AN ENGINEER and rotate left and display THAT IS GREAT. I can light up some leds,but i don't know how to send characters and also the hardware,how to connect the leds to the pic and also to the multiplexer.i am confuss i need help please.

That can easily be expanded to 4 modules instead of two to make a square (sides of a cube, 8x64 scrolling display), put the circuit inside and a nice black top on it and you are done.
