DIY (or myself) Hall sensor enclosure

I bought a Hall sensor in a threaded aluminum enclosure. It looked like a length of aluminum all thread had been cut and drilled almost the entire length. Then an inexpensive Hall sensor had been inserted, with wires, and potted.

If my above assumptions are correct, than I can make any shape enclosure I choose as long as the thickness/material of the enclosure does not interfere with the sensors ability to sense the passing magnet.

Am I thinking correctly?
