I HAVE NO IDEA, NOT WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THE CIRCUIT DOES OR WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO!

Sorry, I was just having a foolish fun moment.

No one would be able to answer your question when it is that vague. Try explaining what you are trying to do or what the diode and the resistor do clearly and maybe someone would be able to provide an answer.

Can you be a bit more specific, because a diode's safety depends on the current flowing through it. Where does Rs come in?

As said before you need to supply more info.

But, just to answer the unknown question. You'll need a 1k ohm 1000W(1kV) resistor.

The specification for the 1N4007 is 1A, 1000V.

I don't suppose this will be safe for the public, but ok for the diode.

in parallel clipper circuit whose input is ac signal and output is taken across diode

what are limiting value of Rs [ range of resistance] such that diode can operate

normally.[safely]

is it enough????

It depends on the voltage and internal resistance of your source. The limiting thing is the current through the diode must not exceed its maximum rating.

The available voltage (Va) will be Vsource max - 0.7V
The resistance in circuit (Rc) will be source resistance of your signal + the resistor you fit.
The current will be Va/Rc
As the diode will only conduct every half cycle, you could probably double the maximum current allowed.

Does that help?

YES
i also have such an idea about Rs
thanks for reply
