Help please. Its a project to design, build and testing of a test device for Category 5 cable which is widely used for computer networking. With the increase in computers being networked it is important to ensure the integrity of the cables which form part of the local area network. It is often required that a user has to connect a Cat 5 cable to RJ45 connectors and this process does not always lead to correctly terminated cable. In this project it is envisaged that a digital transmitter unit and a digital receiver unit would be built. The transmitter unit would be connected to one end of the Cat 5 cable whilst the receiver unit would be connected to the other. If the cable is connected correctly then lights on the transmitter would be green else a red light would show which wire was incorrectly wired.

Testing Cat 5 cable integrity is a lot more than just checking correct connections. You need to test DC resistance, AC impedance, cross-talk and reflections. Commercial cable testers are available on the market.
