In my digital class we have been asked to design a digital clock using alteris. Using the onboard oscillator as a time base it must be presettable, display hours minutes and seconds but only use two seven segment LCDs. A multiplexer must be used. Im at a loss for ideas and many other students hardly no where to begin. i understand the frequency division but after that im at a loss. Taking a 4Mhz signal to 1hz

Do you understand the concept of counters? That's all a digital clock is. The display just takes turns showing hours and minutes (seconds, too?).

What did you use to produce the 1 Hz clock?

If you can count down, you can also count up. Look at presettable counters like a 74LS161 for some inspiration.

i used 74161 ones for frequency division and 74160 to gain my seconds etc. it just was a matter of messing with it i figured it out on my own just the dawnting task of having to find time to analyze my problem. appreciate the help
