Hello I am trying to understand the basic difference between Id and Iq current, in terms of inverter to motor, is one defined as real current (id) and the other as the only armature current, if someone could give me a simple interpretation it would be great.

 

How are we supposed to know what Id and Iq are referring to without a diagram of some kind?

Id and Iq are synthesized (computed) quantities based on the phase currents AND the rotor position. The term "quadrature" means that they differ in phase by 90°. They are then used to establish the setpoint for controlling the motion of the motor.
