designing househol smoke alarm from scratch using 8051

hello!
i have got a project to design an smoke alarm that hits a buzzer and open the windows of the room by taking input from 2 smoke sensors across the room
i m not able to get a hold of the fact how will i show or design the smoke sensors.. and how will they give input(analog/digital)
please help !
