Hi,
My chip will have DDR2 controller built in and I am about to sign up the pin assignment. I would like to optimize the balls in a way that the board layout will be easy. I contacted a board layout house and gave them board netlist, which includes my chip (with preliminary pin assignment) and 4 discrete DDR2 devices and asked them to give me a suggestion about pin swap in order not having signal crossing and making sure that a Byte won't be split between two layers. They reply to me and say that beside the layout they need to do SI simulation.
The question is - Do I need to do SI simulation for just pin optimization? The SI can be done later when I will do the final layout, right now I want to release my chip for Tapeout and would like to make sure the pins was selected correctely.
Thanks,
Joseph
