DC voltage sensor for monitoring battery SOC

I am interested if anyone knows of any DC voltage sensing ICs that would be appropriate to use to measure DC voltages between 0-15 V. I will be feeding the output of the IC or sensor into the A/D of an Atmel AVR32 UC3 microprocessor.

I am considering using a voltage divider, but wanted to see if there are alternative methods to minimize the amount of current being drawn by the sensor.

There are op-amps that draw picoamps to sense the voltage, but when you add an active sensor, it uses more current than its sensing input, so where will the power for the chip come from?

How much current does the microprocessor need (that you want to improve on)to sense the voltage?
