1.) If the negative terminal of one battery is wired to the positive terminal of a second, the batteries are connected in series __________.

2.) A solenoid requires 24V at .25Amps. This solenoid must be operated from a 40 Volt power supply. What is the resistance value that must be placed in series with the solenoid?

3.) In a series circuit with 2 resistors R1 and R2, what voltage is measured across R2 if R1 opens?

Thanks for any help with these questions. Sorry, I just don't understand them.

------- neg 0v ||| 5vpos ---- neg 0v ||| pos 5v ------
now you have 10v from one end to the other

V=IR
24V=0.25A * Rsolenoid
Solve for Rsolenoid

40v=0.25A * (Rresistor+Rsolenoid)
solve for Rresistor

3.) In a series circuit with 2 resistors R1 and R2, what voltage is measured across R2 if R1 opens?

Take a meter a find out and figure out why. Think of it this way.
V=IR

Voltge = Current * Reistance.

If you have an open circuit, how much current do you have? Now solve.

Thanks for any help with these questions. Sorry, I just don't understand them.
