connecting motion sensor to computer for automatic data transfer

Hello. I wired a simple motion detector using a laser and photocell. I now want to interface it with my computer such that it sends data to a program that records how many times the circuit has been switched (someone passes the laser) in a given time period.

Ideally, it would talk directly to excel but if there is a third party program involved that would work too.
