Confusion in converting from single phase to 3-phase for electric motor...

I'm trying to implement a home made synchronous ac motor. I only have a simple transformer(2-ended output) to power the motor. So problem lies in converting the single phase supply from tr. output to 3-phase supply. Can capacitors be suitably connected to provide each single coil (out of 3 coils) a phase that leads (or lags) by 120° from the adjacent coil ?

i've included a picture which shows the arrangement of the coils.
