I want to make a 'kill box' for a motorcycle. In essence ground out the coils. I will control the amount of time with a PIC chip. I am not sure on the component to ground out the coils. Any suggestions? I don't know specifics for voltage etc on the coils but its a motorcycle application.

Interrupt the ignition to shift.

 

Is the bike fuel injected? If so, you would be better off killing the injectors. Otherwise, you'll fill the exhaust system with fuel/air mixture, and when the ignition comes back on you'll get a very loud bang as it lights off.

If you ground the coil(s), you'll cause them to saturate and rapidly overheat them. Expect a short life span.

 

The bikes are carbureted. What component would you suggest to ground the coil? The event is only going to be for 0.08 sec.
