My Sumo-Chef 3000 blender caught on fire. I fixed up the motor and base, but the cable needs replacing. Using aluminum conductors, please size a standard cable size if my blender uses 220 VAC, is 3 metres from the outlet, and the blender is 1 HP. Is your cable size appropriate for chassis wiring? Explain your answer.

In my opinion, using aluminium conductors is sacrilage!!

Alas...having traveled extensively in Thailand and Burma, I've discovered that aluminum line cords are indeed prevalent, as I imagine they might be in India. This is by no means the SCARIEST aspect of much Asian wiring. I was in a hotel in Mae Sot. They had ON DEMAND water heaters INSIDE THE SHOWER, fed with a piece of ROMEX!!!!! And they run 220 everywhere, to boot! I guess that's how they keep the tourist pouplation in check.
